Nell was a notable figure at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member. Her dedication to her faith was evident in the esteemed role she held as Church Mother, a position she served with grace until her health declined. Through her service, she touched the lives of many, exemplifying the spirit of community and support that the church embodies.

In addition to her church involvement, Nell was a proud member of the Cape Jasmine Order of Eastern Stars #86, where she continued to foster connections and support for her fellow members. Her commitment to these organizations reflected her deep-seated values of compassion and service.

Nell is remembered lovingly by her daughter, Cynthia Shun Smith of Killeen, Texas and a step-daughter, Marilyn Walker, Gulfport, Mississippi. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Walter McArthur of Statesboro, Georgia, and sister-in-law, Almarita Hendley, also of Statesboro. Her legacy continues through a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who cherish her memory and the profound impact she had on their lives.
